READY TO TAKE THE LEAP?
2022 is the ninth year Tandara has offered Traineeships. Through the program we have seen young people grow to a new level of spiritual maturity and then into leadership roles in the community. Tandara offers this opportunity for several young people each year to undertake this year of service, commencing in January and finishing in early December. At the conclusion of the traineeship, there is the possibility of being considered for any vacant roles in our Victorian camps.
Sacrifice
A Traineeship year at Tandara is very different to any other you would experience. God refines and matures us through the tough times. Life at Tandara involves repetitive work, living and working in a small staff community in a country setting. You need to be willing to sacrifice your personal time and space, and to be on call. You will miss important family events throughout your year at Tandara. You will be required to spend the first month of your Traineeship settling into the Tandara community; this will include weekends of team building events. The blessing comes from being a servant; being willing to put others first, and being teachable.

A Traineeship is very different from any other experience. It is a year of serving others; a year to focus on God and a year of personal discovery and growth. It is a year of learning about relationships with others, encouragement, conflict resolution, listening and a year of change. The main responsibility of the Trainees is to assist in the day to day running of the campsite. This means food preparation and handling, cleaning and maintenance work, teaching programs to school-aged children and providing Christ-centred hospitality to all groups during their stay. However a Trainee year is much more than this.
Trainees are led through experiences based on deepening their faith and growing together as a team. The range of topics include organising work priorities, Hospitality, First Aid, providing Customer Service, working with people with disabilities, procedures, leading outdoor activities, risk analysis for activities, group booking and much more.
Many Trainees go on to become effective leaders in their local communities, some have gone into Church work and some have become school teachers. We encourage the best to apply for continuing employment in our camps; subject to vacancies at the end of the Traineeship.
It is a year of opportunity, a year of growth both spiritually and personally. It is a year to acquire a whole range of life skills to use as a springboard into a successful and satisfying future in Camping and Hospitality.
– You will be paid under the Hospitality Award with accommodation, meals and education expenses
deducted; leaving you with an allowance.
– Shared on-site accommodation – furnished, en-suite and air-conditioned with all utilities paid (except phone),
– Certificate 3 in Sport and Recreation,
– Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology (10742NAT) through Australian Lutheran College (ALC)*. As of 1st of January, 2020 *ALC is a member college of the Adelaide College of Divinity RTO# 4863,
– Team and one-on-one mentoring,
– Hospitality training,
– Leadership and ChildSafe training,
– Training in meal preparation and food handling/diet requirements/food allergies,
– First Aid training,
– Opportunity to be involved in the Halls Gap Community.
